Margot & The Chap

November 25, 2003

I love it when bands play in my backyard! This was a special one-off gig from Frenchy Stereolab fans Margot (fantastic visuals and stunning vocals), and the forever-branded "eclectic" collective, The Chap. Fantastic that thery get better and better each time we cross paths.

Tori Amos

November 18, 2003

This was a special question and answer session interspersed with songs to promote her new remastered Best Of collection. Tori's performances were everything you wanted in an evening - all the old favourites with none of the lesser-quality material to bog them down. Tooo bad the "journalist" asking the questions was little short of an overexcited, unoriginal fanzine hack. More Tori, less cliché, please!

PLSC: My Computer, Vinny Miller, & Patrick Wolf

November 10, 2003

I missed My Computer completely, having enjoyed their previous PlayLouder at the ICA performance, but I arrived in time to catch most of Vinny Miller's set. Vinny is of an older school of guitarmanship - stand there, belt out the songs, but sadly, there's no room for much showmanship with everything so stripped to its essentials. Thank god for Patrick Wolf, then, who's got personality enough for 100 Vinny Millers. He can sing about pigeons with as much dedication and feeling as his battered boyhood, tie it all together with an accordian and screechy beats as surely as a red ribbon on a perfect package.
